For the last 75 years, the Children's Theatre has been a true Montreal treasure.
Victoria Hall

So if you remember elocution classes, the nervousness of getting ready for opening night, and if the Children's Theatre helped you find your voice and self-confidence....... we invite you to journey back to Victoria Hall on October 17th to remember and celebrate 75 years of this Montreal theatrical institution.

*   It's a time to honour Dorothy and Violet and to see old friends.

*   It's a time to remember that time when you were a child and you were called to the stage.

*   And it's a chance to see some  former classmates on stage again performing some of the Children's Theatre classics!

Who is already involved?  Here's a peak at our committee.

And if you can't be there in person, it does not mean that you can't be part of this piece of history.

*You can send a short video message to be included in the Video tribute.
*Or feel free to just write in and share your anecdotes and memories with us.

Alumnus Muriel Gold is writing a book about the Children's Theatre and she is looking for material.

WANT TO GET INVOLVED IN THE PLANNING?
Even if it is just putting us in touch with other alumni  - we need your help.

Contact us for more information - or join our group on Facebook (you will find it searching under Montreal Children's Theatre) to keep in touch with plans and find your old Children's Theatre friends.

And to take you back, one alumnus shares his memories of the Children's Theatre:

Alan GoulemI think there are very few people who do what they really love for a living. I am one of the lucky ones. For as long as I remember I’ve wanted to be on stage, to be in movies, television …to tell stories.

When I was about eight years old a friend from the pool, Robbie Brennan told me he acted on TV and did plays. I was completely taken by the idea but it seemed so far away, so impossible. So I asked him how he was able to do that and he told me about Childrens Theatre. I went home and badgered my mom about it to no end. She finally said if you can find the info we’ll look into it. I remember vividly walking in the rain to the Brennans and asking for the info. Robbies mom handed me the old application form the blue and white cardboard fold out of a wardrobe. Inside was the phone number for Dorothy Davis place on Girouard. My mom warned me that just because I took some classes it didn’t mean I’d be in the movies. We went down to NDG for the first meeting with Dorothy and Violet. My mom was sold, I was in seventh heaven. And before I had attended even one class Dorothy called and asked if I would audition for a commercial (This was well before there were casting houses or even agents for kids in Montreal so people just phoned CT when they needed kids.) I got the commercial, my first Actra credit and my first paycheck. I also got a lifelong addiction…to the stage. Not long after, I was in my first play, I was Jimminy Cricket in Pinnochio (Robbie was Pinnochio). I stayed with CT well into my teens, and then they hired me as stage hand for their productions at Victoria Hall. Since then I have never looked for any other career . I’ve studied  at many other places since, but the love for the hard work, the camaraderie, the bright lights , the applause the audience…I got all that with Childrens Theatre. I’m glad to report that I remain employed in TV film and the theatre…And I really do Love my job.
Thanks CT
Alain Goulem
